Thanks for visiting my profile! I'm Hunter Holmes, I've been a railfan since before I could talk. As with many railfans eventually the interest went beyond just watching the trains roll into the station, with the introduction of the popular video sharing site YouTube in 2005 I purchased my first video camera and headed trackside. Ever since I've been a hardcore foamer. Though my focus always has been video I have recently got more serious about still photography. CN P27691 18 is seen on the approach to Mandaumin shortly after departing Sarnia. Having captured the first trainset entering Canada, and some testing on the Chatham Sub (both at night), it was nice to see one of these new Siemens sets in the daylight. I must admit, they look pretty sharp. The consist of this delivery extra is: CN 3087, SIIX 2204, SIIX 2603, SIIX 2703, SIIX 2803, SIIX 2303, SIIX 2903

Without realizing what I had just done, I took my farewell shot of the CN Sarnia Spur. We had chased L514 throughout the morning, from Chatham to Thamesville and back, upon arriving back in Chatham L514 cut off their cars from Thamesville at the North end of the former C&O yard, then ran light power to Thompson’s in Blenheim to pull the final cars back to Chatham, closing an era. It wasn’t until talking to a fellow CN conductor that was working the job, that I was told that this may be the final time CN travels the Sarnia Spur. Thompson’s is now transporting their grain via truck to CP in Kent Bridge and no longer want to be serviced by CN. As a Chatham kid born and raised, this job has always had a special place in my heart and was always a favourite to chase. I feel very grateful to have my photos and memories of the line and the privileged to have traveled over it many times. Let’s hope this isn’t the end.

CN A435 takes the approach to Mansewood "with the arrow" as it rounds the bend on an August afternoon that couldn't have cooperated better for us, it poured rain between trains but every time one was near the sun would break through just in time for photos.

CN 4115 GP9RM leads a beltpack consist south on the St.Clair River Industrial Spur from Sarnia to Courtright in remote mode, captured here at Lasalle line. Having used this consist earlier in the week on an assignment I can say the 4100's are in much better shape than their yard unit counterparts.

CN's Terra Industrial assignment approaches Rokeby line near Corunna. They have cut off from their cars which are destined for Nova Chemicals Corunna which they will service on their way back to the yard. Before carrying on towards Terra Conductor Wilson will stop the movement and throw the switch for the run around track to save them some time on their return.

Two VIA RDC's sit parked on the South leg of the wye from the Chatham Sub at Chatham East, to the Sarnia Spur at Chatham South. The units are in the area conducting tests on crossing response to RDC's at speed on the Chatham Subdivision. Accompanying the RDC units was VIA F40PH-2d 6442 which towed them down to Chatham in the early hours of Saturday morning. Due to difficulty turning 6442 the plan of having it head the consist home was scrapped and it instead was left in the yard until testing was complete and it pushed the RDC's back to London.

For a railfan my new home is a pretty prime spot, I can stroll out my back yard and catch a fairly unique operation, the problem is trying to time your catch as the CSX tends to sneak up on you. One of CSX Transportation's few Canadian operations, an industrial job originating in Sarnia approaches St.Clair Blvd. in Corunna after just servicing DuPont to the North of town. This particular job uses whats left of the CSX Sarnia Subdivision, which runs all the way to Chatham, but is facing abandonment on the Southern portion if a new operator cannot be found in the coming months. Note: The southern portion of the line South of Wallceburg is owned by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, but the rail has been sold to CP, if an agreement for operation is not made shortly CP can claim the rail and rip it up.

VIP (Vidal Street Industrial Park) Rail Inc. is a relatively unknown but very successful short-line railway located in Sarnia Ontario. Here we see EMD SW1200 #1511 heading back to the yard after doubling two cuts of tank cars. VIP focuses mainly on rail car storage and transloading as well as servicing a few industries such as CABOT Canada. VIP also interchanges with CN and CSX operating on the CN Farm Track Spur.

The Royal Canadian Pacific consist including the beautiful matching A-B-A set of FP9's makes quite the scene as it enters Chatham in perfect lighting. As a railfan you win some and loose some; this is definitely a win in my books and one for the records.

As everyone ends the month of June with a bang with Canada Day fireworks CP helps us railfans end June and bring in July with a bang as well by treating us to this great looking lash up on Ethanol train 640 lead by SD30ECO 5006 ( ex CP SD40-2 #5869 ), NS 7503 and NS 9171.

Just moments after rolling into Bayview Junction after our early morning drive from Chatham I set up my gear just in time to catch the joint VIA/Amtrak "Maple Leaf" round the bend from Toronto on its voyage to New York City, by far one of the more interesting passenger trains in Canada.

On an absolutely stunning may afternoon we spot what looks to be CP 243 headed West through Kent Bridge at speed with the freshly painted AC4400CW 9822 leading with no beaver crest, DME 6084 (ex CP SD40-2) and bringing up the rear is CP GP9u 8239 on what is likely one of it's final runs.

Two GE centre cab light duty switcher locomotives sit lifeless at the Thompson's grain elevator in Blenhiem, the first being the newer addition; BUCYRUS #8302 is seen boarded up after a young vandal smashed out its windows shortly after arrival. The second is ex Greater Winnipeg Water District #100, she's a 44 ton locomotive with 3 other sisters also residing in Ontario, one being on Thompson's property at the Grain Elevator in Kent-Bridge Ontario, and the two others now belonging to Port Stanley Terminal Rail of which one is running as L3 "Winnie" after her former home. Please note that this is PRIVATE PROPERTY. The locomotives are visible from the road and it can be tempting to wander back to them for a look, it is alway recommended to obtain the required permission before doing so.
